AAC Encoding

Figure 8.3. AAC Preferences

AAC Encoding Options

Configure the MP4-AAC encoding quality.

Bitrate

For low bitrate sources, or non-music recordings, you may want to select 64 kbps encoding to create smaller files. Encoding at a high quality, say 192kbps, does not change or improve the original audio quality. However it does mean that the recording will be closer to what the original source should sound like (what is being sent to your computer's audio output), compared to say encoding at 64kbps.

Channels

Choose whether AAC files should be in mono or stereo.

Encoding Quality

This is a parameter which Apple's AAC encoder will make use of. Choose 'best' for higher quality encodings.

Configure Custom AAC Settings

If the choices above are not enough, you can configure your own custom AAC settings to be used.

Bookmarkable

iTunes and iPods can remember the last played position of the AAC file, making this option useful for long recordings or audio books.
